TOWSON, Md. – Junior right-handed pitcher Steven Beckham (Mt. Vernon, Ill.) has been named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America® College Division Baseball First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). He is one of 11 first team selection (two pitchers) and 33 overall honorees.

Beckham was named a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete in 2013 and is two-time Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) All-Academic Team honoree.

The junior actuarial science major has a perfect 4.00 G.P.A. at Olivet Nazarene. Beckham posted a 9-2 record with a 3.82 E.R.A. In 74 2/3 innings, he struck out 46 batters and had five complete games with one shutout. He led the team in wins and walks while helping the Tigers to a 35-21 overall record and the CCAC South Division championship for the second year in a row. His nine wins rank him ninth in the NAIA.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Voting for Capital One Academic All-District is done by current CoSIDA members. Those who obtain First Team All-District status move onto the national Capital One Academic All-America® ballot; these national awards are voted upon by Academic All-America® Committee members and current CoSIDA Board of Directors.
