KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced the 2014 Rawlings-NAIA Baseball Gold Glove Team, as selected by the NAIA-Baseball Coaches Association All-America Selection Committee. For the eighth year, a total of nine players were chosen based upon their defensive success. 

Olivet Nazarene University baseball had its first representative in the program’s history named to the team. Senior righthander Jonathan Fightmaster (Bourbonnais, Illinois) earned Gold Glove honors as the only pitcher selected in the NAIA. In 15 appearances, he had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage, including 25 assists, 11 putouts and four double plays. He was the only Tiger starter to finish the season without an error.

In 2014, Fightmaster appeared in 15 games, starting 14. He had a team-best 9-4 record with a 2.86 ERA (team best). He threw seven complete games with three shutouts (team highs). He pitched a total of 97 2/3 innings, allowing 118 hits, 46 runs (31 earned), 20 walks and had 61 strikeouts (second on team). Also, he was named to the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference First Team and Gold Glove Team following the 2014 season.

Ian Josh of Sterling (Kan.), Tyler Akins of Belhaven (Miss.), Zach Close of AIB (Iowa) and Danny Carroll of Culver-Stockton (Mo.) are also receiving their respective program’s first-ever Gold Glove honoree.
