Olivet Nazarene University sophomore linebacker Brandon Ruemler (Williamsport, Ind.) and freshman quarterback Zach Gross (Elgin, Ill.) earned Mid-States Football Association Midwest League Player of the Week honors for defense and offense, respectively. This was the first selection for both players this seasons.
In the Tiger’s last second 41-39 win over Trinity International on Nov. 3, Ruemler led the team with 10 tackles, a tackle for loss, and intercepted a pass for 20 yards. In 10 starts this season, Ruemler leads the team with 75 tackles and 10 tackles for loss (33 yards). He has three sacks for 14 yards, two interceptions (40 yards), one fumble recovery and two passes broken up. Ruemler is tied for 14th and 12, respectively in tackles and tackles for loss in the MSFA Midwest League.
On Saturday, Gross started his first career game and rushed for a career-high 159 yards on 15 carries, scoring two touchdowns. One of which was a 55-yard scamper in the first quarter putting the Tigers up 14 points. Gross also went 6-for-8 passing with 100 yards. On the season, Gross has rushed 29 times for 239 yards and passed for 132 yards in five games.
