ROME, Ga. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced Tuesday that 259 football student-athletes have been named 2012 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. Cumberland (Tenn.) leads all institutions with 16 individuals on the list.
In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete mush maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor.
ONU had three Tigers honored for their work in the classroom; senior defensive back Michael Barkley (Climax, Mich.) and juniors, offensive lineman Seth Barrigear (Zeeland, Mich.) and defensive back Mark Kosrow (Hoffman Estates, Ill.). All were named NAIA Scholar-Athletes for the first time.
