As part of the 20th
anniversary celebration of the Mid-States Football Association, Information
Director Larry Alter has chosen all-time Mideast League and Midwest League
The selections feature players from
16 of the 24 schools which have competed in the MSFA since the association was
formed in 1994. Only four of the charter members — Trinity International (Ill.),
Taylor (Ind.), Saint Xavier (Ill.) and Olivet Nazarene — remain as part of the 14-team MSFA.
Among the 27-member MSFA Midwest all-time team was former
ONU standout Ben Richardson. Richardson was named to the team alongside
three other defensive backs.
During his career, Richardson was named a NAIA
Honorable Mention All-American (2000) and NAIA First Team All-American (2003).
He also earned MSFA Midwest League honors in 2000 and 2003, and was named player
of the week in 2003. During the 2000 season he broke the season record for
interceptions with six. In addition, he helped the Tigers to the 2000 and 2003
MSFA Midwest League titles, 20 league wins, and a NAIA playoff appearance (2000).
Overall, Richardson accumulated 250 tackles, 13
interceptions, and 177 return yards in 37 career games for the Tigers. He ranks
fifth on the Tigers all-time list in interceptions. Following his career at
Olivet, he performed in tryouts for both the Houston Texans and New York Jets. In
2011, Richardson was inducted into the ONU Athletics Hall of Fame.
