ONU men's basketball hosted a clinic for the kids from Nazarene Athletics, this is the seventh year the Tigers have traveled to Chicago Heights
The weekend of February 9 and 10, 2013, was again rewarding for the ONU men’s basketball team. For the seventh consecutive year, the Tigers spent two days with Nazarene Athletics, a youth sports organization from Chicago Heights Church of the Nazarene. They hosted the group at the Tigers’ 86-39 win over Judson on Saturday, then traveled to Chicago Heights for worship and a basketball clinic following lunch.
During halftime at McHie Arena, the young athletes were able to spend time on the floor and play games afterward.
At the clinic, involving approximately 40 children, the Tigers led drills and participate in an autograph session. There were also contests to win prizes. Senior Jake Boyce (Lockport, Ill.) said: “I always love teaching and spending time with children. Going and spending time, we [the team] think we are giving the children memories and helping them with skills. That may be true, but they gave me memories I will never forget. It is always a great time at Chicago Heights.”
About his experience with Nazarene Athletics, Jake continues: “I love seeing a kid’s eyes light up when shooting and winning at basketball. It’s a great feeling.”
