ONU Men's Basketball had over 115 involved in its Overnight Skills Camp

Led by Head Coach Ralph Hodge and his coaching staff, the Olivet Nazarene University men’s basketball program hosted a month full of camps and shootouts in June. The Tigers held 15 days of activities — three weeks of individual skills camps and two weekends of high school shootouts — on campus using McHie Arena, Birchard Gymnasium, and the new Student Life and Recreation Center (SLRC).

During three weeks of individual skills camps, the Tiger coaches had the privilege of working with close to 185 campers from ages six to college-age. In addition, all current and incoming ONU men’s basketball student-athletes were on campus participating and helping with the Overnight Skills Camp. Each camp included teaching through terminology, warm-up, demonstration, drills, practice situations, 1-on-1 and 3-on-3. Throughout every camp, the ONU coaches took time each day to talk about the importance of sportsmanship, teamwork, sacrifice within a team concept and integrated faith, Campers also had the opportunity to stay in Chapman Hall, eat meals in Ludwig Center, and swim each night in the aquatic center.

The men’s basketball team also held two ONU High School Shootouts. The round-robin style shootouts were open to any team from Illinoia and Indiana. This summer, 30 teams — including more than 350 athletes and coaches — played at least five games on ONU’s campus and were given the opportunity to stay on campus. Many local teams took advantage of the shootout: Bradley-Bourbonnais, Beecher, Clifton Central, Herscher, Kankakee, Peotone and St. Anne. Covington High School's team, coached by alumnus and former Tiger point guard Kent Chezem, made the trip from Covington, Ind.
