TOWSON, Md. – Junior James
Fisher (Wales, Mich.)
has been named to the 2013 Capital One Academic
All-America® College Division Men’s Track and Field/Cross Country Third Team,
as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). He
is one of 15 third team selection (two pitchers) and 47 overall honorees.
Fisher was named a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete in 2013
and is two-time Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) All-Academic
The junior geological engineering major has a 3.94 G.P.A. at
Olivet Nazarene. He ran in four races for the men’s cross country team this
season. He finished 16th at the Midwest Classic and 22nd
at the CCAC Conference Championships. He came in ninth in the 800 meter run and
fifth in the one mile at the Carthage Invite during the indoor track and field
season. Fisher also finished ninth in the CCAC Outdoor Championships in the
1500 meter run and 10th at the NCCAA Outdoor Championships.
The Capital One College Division Academic All-America® men’s
and women’s cross country/track and field teams are comprised of
student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a
student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative
G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic
standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports
Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed
Academic All-America honors on more than 19,000 student-athletes in Divisions
I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
