Olivet Nazarene University's Damon Jensen, head men’s golf coach, recently competed in the Chicago District Golf Association (CDGA) Qualifier hosted at Calumet Country Club (Donald Ross designed course) in Homewood, Ill. He shot a 67 (35-32) placing first, qualifying him among 11 others for the 94th CDGA Amateur Championships to be played at Edgewood Valley Country Club in LaGrange, Ill., June 24 to 27.

His score of 67 was the lowest of any qualifier at any of the four qualifying courses. The four qualifying courses each have up to 90 players. Each course advances the low 12 scores and ties.

The 6,589-yard course in Homewood was new to him, and he had never played it. The course has very demanding for tee shots with tight fairways lined by bunkers and trees. It challenges the player with deep rough and fast greens, including water in play on eight holes. When he played it during the Qualifier, the conditions were windy with a few bouts of light rain. He hit every fairway but one and missed only two greens.

Coach Jensen has been the head men’s golf coach at ONU since 2012 and led the Tigers to a fourth place finish at the CCAC Championships this spring.
