BOURBONNAIS, Ill. — In first-year head coach David Blahnik’s home debut and his team's first home match of the season, the Olivet Nazarene University men’s soccer team scored three second-half goals en route to a decisive 3-1 victory over previously undefeated Grace College (Ind.) on Tuesday, Sept. 11.
It didn't take long for the Tigers (3-2) to convert one of their chances in the second half. Just 45 seconds in, forward Logan Engelkes (Winnebago, Ill.) scored on a shot that deflected off the post for his third goal of the season. He was assisted by Todd Bevan (Schererville, Ind.) Not long after, Bevan added a goal of his own, following a sharp pass up the middle of the field from Robby Gunderson (Downers Grove, Ill.). The third goal came from Michael Da Silva (Brampton, Ontario, Canada), assisted by Brett Robertson (Monee, Ill.).
Grace (4-1) added a goal late, but the Tigers' defense proved to be too much. In all, Olivet allowed eight shots, and goalkeeper Tim Walker (Grand Blanc, Mich.) played all 90 minutes and finished with three saves.
The Tigers hit the road on Saturday, Sept. 15, for a game at Indiana Institute of Technology in Fort Wayne, Ind. Game time is set for 4 p.m. (EST).
