BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – After observing the first 60 minutes of play of the Olivet Nazarene University men's soccer team on Saturday, October 6, it was exciting to see how the Tigers finished the game. In Olivet’s conference game against the Illinois Institute of Technology the Tigers were able to overcome a one goal first-half deficit by scoring three second half goals in a matter of 15 minutes to win 3-1.

Both defenses were physical throughout the first 30 minutes until the Scarlet Hawks (5-5-1, 2-1-1) were first to score when Robert Rixer scored off an assist from Gui Nunes. The first half ended with the defenses continually shutting down offensive attacks.

Despite cold temperatures and a one-goal deficit the Tigers came out in the second half and began to show their dominance. By the 64:14 mark Elliot Totsch (Oswego, Ill.) was able to cross the ball into the box and Seth Arriaga (Richton Park, Ill.) tied the game. Only two minutes later Michael Da Silva (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) scored his fourth goal of the year cleaning up a 30-yard shot from Yonda Abogunrin (Vernon Hills, Ill.). The Tigers kept a 2-1 lead until the 80th minute when Robby Gunderson (Downers Grove, Ill.) stretched the lead with his fourth goal when Richard Paret (West Chicago, Ill.) fed him on a fast break.

Olivet dominated the shot column with a 15-9 advantage. Freshman goalkeeper Zach Chambers (Flanders, N.J.) started his eighth game and played all 90 minutes and had two saves.

The Tigers are back in conference action on Tuesday, October 9 with a road game against Holy Cross College (Ind.) 4 p.m. (EST).
