NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Following the Tiger’s second conference victory of the season, the Olivet Nazarene University men’s soccer wanted to add to the win column against Holy Cross College (Ind.) on October 9. In a game that went an entire 110 minutes and two overtimes, the Tigers and Saints were only able to manage one goal apiece to end in a tie.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first half; however, ONU (6-4-3, 2-2-2) and Holy Cross (7-4-1, 4-0-1) were able to manage nine and five shots, respectively. It also was a physical game as there was a combined 11 fouls in the first half.
As soon as the second half began the Saints struck, when Luis Delgado finished a shot off the foot of Eduardo Berruezo. Holy Cross was able to hold a 1-0 lead until the 69th minute when junior Michael Da Silva (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) scored his fifth goal of the season. Freshman Josh Rosenbaum (Plainfield, Ill.) assisted on the goal, his first of the season. The remaining minutes of the first half went to the defenses as the scored remained tied.
In the first overtime, neither team showed much of a threat as ONU was only able to manage two shots. The second OT was more exciting as both teams attacked the net putting up three shots apiece.
Olivet out-dueled the Saints with a 28-13 advantage in the shot column. Freshman goalkeeper Zach Chambers (Flanders, N.J.) started his ninth game and went the distance allowing the Saints lone goal.
Olivet will be back on the pitch in conference action on Saturday, October 13 to host Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) at 7:30 p.m.
