DEERFIELD, Ill. – Looking for their for fifth straight game decision without a loss, the Tigers traveled for a CCAC contest against Trinity International University (Ill.) on Saturday, October 20. Finding themselves down twice in the game, Olivet was able to to respond and win their third straight and fourth in five games, beating the Trojans 3-2.

After wet conditions earlier in the week, ONU (9-4-3, 5-2-2) and TIU (4-10-1, 1-8) were each looking to play a much cleaner game and throughout the first half the defenses showed they were ready to do so. However, after 45 minutes of play neither team scored, but 15 shots had been distributed between both teams.

On the other hand, immediately in the second half the Trojans struck first in the 52nd minute when Michael Schroeder scored from Ike Akubuilo to go up 1-0. Just two minutes later the Tigers tied the game when Michael Da Silva (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) scored his 10th goal of the year off an assist from Richard Paret (West Chicago, Ill.) Da Silva has scored five goals in the last three games and leads the Tigers this season.

Three minutes later TIU’s Akubuilo converted on a penalty kick to go up 2-1. There after in the 59th minute, sophomore Paddy Hoepp (Frankfurt, Germany) converted a penalty kick of his own to tie the game for the second time for Olivet. It was Hoepp’s fifth goal of the game.

The game was tied for the next 12 minutes until Kyle Reopelle (Elgin, Ill.) converted his first goal of the season off an assist from Tyler Gill (Plainfield, Ill.) The Tigers held on defensively for their ninth win of the year.

In a shot-heavy game, the Tigers finished with 21 compared to the Trojans 12. Freshman goalkeeper Zach Chambers (Flanders, N.J.) started his 12th game and had two saves in his sixth win in goal.

Olivet will return to conference action Tuesday, October 23 and play host to the University of St. Francis (Ill.) at 7 p.m.
