Senior Michael Da Silva scored a goal as the Tigers beat St. Ambrose 4-1 on Saturday
BOURBONNAIS, Ill. — Head Coach David Blahnik and No. 25 ranked Olivet Nazarene University men's soccer began the 2013
campaign with a 4-1 home win over St. Ambrose University (Iowa) on Saturday, August 31. ONU got the help needed from a few new faces in order to put away the
Fighting Bees early.
After only 39 minutes, the Tigers (1-0) led 3-0 when freshman Miguel Fierro (Urbana, Ill.)
scored his second goal of the night off an assist from freshman Aaron Chatfield (Petoskey, Mich.). Todd Bevan (Schererville, Ind.) scored
first for the home team in the 14th minute, and the Tigers never
looked back, leading the entire game. He also chipped in with an assist on the second goal of the night.
In the second half, Sam Heath gave the Bees (1-1) their first
goal in the 53rd minute off an assist from James Trevor. However, the
ONU defense kept the score at 3-1 until the 90th minute when senior Michael Da Silva (Brampton, Ontario,
Canada) scored off a pass from Robby
Gunderson (Downers Grove, Ill.), his second of the night.
In an offensive game for the Tigers, ONU won big in the shot
column, 14-4, with half on goal for the Tigers. Sophomore goalkeeper Zach Chambers (Flanders, N.J.) recorded
two saves as the Tiger defense controlled the game all 90 minutes.
The Tigers continue play on Monday, September 2, against the
University of Northwestern Ohio at 5 p.m. The game is the Tourbeau National Game of the Week and will be broadcast on http://www.nscaatv.com/.
