DEARBORN, Mich. — After back-to-back disappointing losses, the ONU men’s soccer team looked to their next opportunity for a win. This time, the Tigers took no chances at the expense of the University of Michigan-Dearborn Wolverines. ONU ended up with 36 shots and 20 on goal in exchange for zero by the home team. However, the Tigers only managed one goal, but that was all they would need en route to a 1-0 win on the road and their first of the year.

The Wolverines (3-2) looked to be prepared for what the Tigers (2-2-1) had in store for them, saving all 12 shots and keeping them scoreless throughout the first half. ONU totaled 21 total shots and six corner kicks.

As the second half started, the home team continued to use their defense as their only offense, keeping the Tigers from getting in the back of the net. As 20 minutes passed in the second half, the score remained 0-0, and that’s when Olivet finally broke through. In the 67th minute, Todd Bevan (Schererville, Ind.) volleyed in a cross from freshman Aaron Chatfield (Petoskey, Mich.).

The game finished 1-0, even though the Tigers had another 15 shots in the second half. Senior Michael Da Silva (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) had five shots on goal; and Tyler Gill (Plainfield, Ill.) and Paddy Hoepp (Frankfurt, Germany) had four apiece.

Sophomore goalkeeper Zach Chambers (Flanders, N.J.) did not see a shot all day and recorded his first shutout of the season. At the same time, the Wolverines goalkeeper Andrew Pietrzak had 19 saves.

The Tigers will be back on the pitch on Saturday, September 21, at home against No. 13 Grand View University (Iowa) at 3 p.m.
