CHICAGO --- Olivet Nazarene University's Michael Da Silva
(Brampton, Ontario, Canada) and Zach Chambers (Flanders, N.J.) helped the
Tigers close out the non-conference portion of their season in a big way on
Saturday with a 3-2 upset win over previously-unbeaten and NAIA No. 7-ranked
Grand View University (Iowa) on Saturday and, on Tuesday, claimed Chicagoland
Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week honors.
Da Silva, a senior forward, garnered the Offensive Player of
the Week distinction after scoring the first two goals of the game in the big
win. The first goal opened the scoring
just four minutes into the contest with the second goal at the 60-minute mark
breaking a 1-1 tie.
Da Silva now has a team-leading four goals on the season for
Chambers, a sophomore goalkeeper, helped hand Grand View its
first loss of the season by stopping three shots on goal to earn Defensive
Player of the Week plaudits. Despite
allowing the two goals on the day, Chambers still boasts a solid 1.34 goals-against
average on the season.
Olivet Nazarene bumped its record up to 3-2-1 on the season
with the win in its lone contest over the seven-day period.
