Junior Paddy Hoepp scored his third goal of 2013 against TIU and helped ONU win 2-0 on Saturday
DEERFIELD, Ill. — Early in the conference season the head
coach David Blahnik and the ONU men’s
soccer team had an opportunity to pick up a third straight win. They traveled
north to play Trinity International University (Ill.) and took care of business, winning 2-0. The Tigers' shutout was the third of the season and fifth win in
the last six games overall.
Six Tigers (6-3-1, 3-1) finished with shots on goal and in
the 20th minute, one finally found the net. Junior Paddy Hoepp (Frankfurt, Germany) scored
his third goal of the year on an assist from Todd Bevan (Schererville, Ind.) to give ONU an early
lead. Hoepp’s goal was also his second of the week.
Neither team was able to convert the rest of the first half
as the defenses took over, preventing a high-scoring game. However, ONU had their
chances, winning the shot battle. The second half started slow and the
score remained 1-0 until the Tigers made it a two goal lead on a Brett Robertson (Monee, Ill.) score in
the 77th minute; he was assisted by Richard Paret (West Chicago, Ill.). Olivet was able to preserve the shutout by keeping the
Trojans (1-5-3, 1-2-1) out of the net the rest of the game.
The game was cleanly played with only 16 fouls called and no
cards handed out. Once again, the Tigers dominated in the shot column finishing
with 14 compared to TIU’s five.
Sophomore goalkeeper Zach
Chambers (Flanders, N.J.) recorded his third shutout of the season and
second in the last three games. He finished the game with three saves, bringing
his season goals against average to 1.08.
ONU will be back in action back at home on Tuesday, October 8,
at 7 p.m. against CCAC opponent Trinity Christian College (Ill.).
