BOURBONNAIS, Ill. — A 3-0 win over the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) gave the ONU men’s soccer team their 10th win of the season and sixth shutout. Olivet defeated the Scarlet Hawks in a non-conference game on a chilly Saturday night. Senior Michael Da Silva (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) provided two assists against IIT and added to his team-leading 17 points.

It didn’t take long for the home team to get on the board (3:10). ONU (10-4-1) took advantage of their first of eight corner kicks of the evening. Da Silva played a perfect ball to the far side of the box, and Yonda Abogunrin (Vernon Hills, Ill.) headed in his second goal of the year.

Neither team could find the net until the 26th minute when Tyler Gill (Plainfield, Ill.) scored his first goal of 2013. Da Silva was there to provide his fifth assist of the season. The Tigers tried their best to extend the lead before the half ended but only managed the two goals in the first half.

In the second half, ONU had to wait until the 90th minute before they scored a third time. Freshman Miguel Fierro (Urbana, Ill.) was assisted by Brett Robertson (Monee, Ill.). IIT (5-7-3) struggled to do anything offensively as they weren’t able to threaten all night.

The Tigers dominated the shot column, winning 25-3 with 13 on goal. Sophomore Richard Paret (West Chicago, Ill.) had five to his credit.

Freshman goalkeeper Kevin Stuitje (Lockport, N.Y.) recorded one save and his first career shutout in only his second start. The Scarlet Hawk goalies had 10 combined saves.

ONU will be back in action on the road on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 3 p.m. against CCAC opponent Roosevelt University (Ill.).
