CLEVELAND, Tenn. - After dropping its season-opener to the host school, the Olivet Nazarene University men's soccer team bounced back with a convincing 3-1 victory over Montreat College (N.C.) in the second game of the Lee University (Tenn.) Tournament.
The win was David Blahnik's first as the Tigers' head coach.
The Tigers (1-1) faced an early deficit after Montreat's Alan Jackson ripped a shot from 18 yards that found a small space between Tigers freshman goalie Zach Chambers (Flanders, N.J.) and the crossbar.
The Tigers answered 41 minutes into the first half when senior forward Logan Engelkes (Winnebago, Ill.) scored after junior forward Vito Miulli (Wheaton, Ill.) picked up a loose ball and assisted the goal.
Miulli helped the Tigers strike again in the second half when he was assisted by sophomore Robby Gunderson (Downers Grove, Ill.). A little over eight minutes later, Gunderson scored one himself, assisted by Engelkes.
Chambers had three saves in 90 minutes of play against Montreat (0-3).
Gunderson and sophomore midfielder Elliot Totsch (Oswego, Ill.) were among those honored on the 11-player all-tournament team.
The Tigers return to action at the Mount Vernon Nazarene University (Ohio) Tournament in Mount Vernon, Ohio, on Sept. 7.
