MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – Senior forward Logan Engelkes (Winnebago, Ill.) notched a goal and an assist to led the Olivet Nazarene University men’s soccer team to a 2-0 win over Mount Vernon Nazarene University (Ohio) during first-round play at the First-Knox Cougar Invitational on Friday, Sept. 7.
At the 24:13 mark, Engelkes struck the back of the net on a follow of his initial deflected shot to give the Tigers (2-1) the lead. The goal was assisted by Elliot Totsch (Oswego, Ill.).
Later in the half, it was again Engelkes who helped stretch the Tigers' lead. The senior's throw-in was tracked down by midfielder Tyler Gill (Plainfield, Ill.) and headed past the Cougars' goalkeeper. It was on of the Tigers' 15 shots, eight of which were on goal.
Meanwhile, the Tigers kept Mount Vernon at bay and allowed just one shot on goal, which was saved by goalie Tim Walker (Grand Blanc, Mich.).
The Tigers take the field again on Saturday, Sept. 8, and continue tournament play against Davenport University (Mich.) at 2 p.m. (EST).
