CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – Junior Aaron Buchanan (Beavercreek, Ohio.) inked his name in the Olivet Nazarene University men’s swimming record books on Saturday, Nov. 17. Buchanan became the first Tiger to win a swimming event in school history, taking first place in the 400-yard Individual Medley with a time of 4:11.56 at the Woehnker Invitational hosted by Wabash College (Ind.).
The Tigers performed well in their inaugural swim meet, finishing in third place of six teams which included NCAA Division I and II schools. Olivet accumulated 507 points, finishing behind a strong teams from the University of Indianapolis and DePauw University who finished with 681 and 645 points, respectively.
Besides his 400-yard IM victory, Buchanan also finished second in the 200-yard Butterfly (1:57.20) and the 200-yard Individual Medley (2:00.11). Teammate Jacob Anderson (Clifton, Ill.) was right behind in the 200-yard IM, finishing third (2:00.33).
Anderson, a freshman, also posted a second place finish in the 100-yard Backstroke (53.95) and a third place finish in the 200-yard Backstroke (1:57.74). Freshman Calvin Price (Grahamstown, South Africa) posted a second place finish in the 100-yard Breaststroke (59.83), while freshman Sam Borgman (Zeeland, Mich.) finished fourth in the 500-yard Freestyle (4:56.18).
The 200-yard Freestyle Relay made up of Price, freshmen Kasey Foley (Willows, Cal.), Etienne Swanepoel (Bourbonnais, Ill.) and junior Justin Natyzak (Rocklin, Cal.) finished the afternoon with a fifth place finish (1:29.18)
Olivet will take to the lanes again on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 11:00 a.m. at Wheaton College (Ill.).
