Tigers look impressive at University of Chicago Invite

CHICAGO – Freshman Andrew Fischer (Graaff-Reinet, South Africa) arrived on the campus of Olivet Nazarene University less than two weeks ago and wasted no time in proving to his teammates that he was ready to compete as a Tiger. Fischer helped lead the men’s swim team to a second place finish at the University of Chicago Invite on Saturday, Jan. 12, winning three individual events and helping two relays secure top two finishes.
The Tigers racked up 770.5 total points, finishing 83.5 points behind host University of Chicago. Calvin College (Mich.) finished third in the 11 team field with 607.5.
The 200-yard Freestyle Relay team comprised of Calvin Price (Grahamstown, South Africa), Jacob Anderson (Clifton, Ill.), Bradley Adamson (Lakewood, Cal.) and Kasey Foley (Willows, Cal.) got the Tigers started in the opening event, placing first at 1:27.06. Not to be outdone, the 200-yard medley relay team of Anderson, Price, Aaron Moyer (St. Joseph, Mich.) and Foley touched first with a 1:37.86. Coming in at the 7:08.48 mark, the 800-yard freestyle relay made up of Fischer, Sam Borgman (Zeeland, Mich.), Adamson and Aaron Buchanan (Beavercreek, Ohio) also captured first place.Anderson, Adamson, Fischer and Price teamed up for a second place finish in the 400-yard free relay, touching at 3:14.08.
Buchanan, the team captain, continued to prove that he was a team leader, taking first place in the 200-yard individual medley (1:57.32), the 400-yard individual medley (4:13.51) and the 200-yard butterfly (1:56.54).
Fischer’s individual top finishes came in the 500-yard freestyle (4:43.68), the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.98) and the 1650-yard freestyle (16:21.79).
Anderson also post two individual second-place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (53.44) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:57.83). Moyer posted a second place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (53.16).
The Tigers return to action at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 19 at Lewis University (Ill.).
