GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Sometimes it can be hard to live up to expectations and pressures after a successful season, but the No. 3 Olivet Nazarene University men’s swim team seemed to pick up where they left off a season ago. The Tiger got back in the pool for the first time on Saturday, Nov. 9 when they traveled to Calvin College (Mich.) for a meet with the host Knights and NCAA Div. I Wayne State University (Mich.). The Tigers easily defeated Calvin 156-71, but fell to Wayne State 114-123.

The Tigers wasted little time letting the competition know they were ready to compete with, winning the opening 200-yard medley relay with a 1:35.73 time. The team of sophomore Jake Anderson (Clifton, Ill.) and juniors Mat Prasser (Bakersfield, Cal.), CJ Van Wormer (Hinsdale, Ill.) and Simon Pheasant (Alexandria, South Africa) touched the pad just ahead of Wayne State.

Sophomore Andrew Fischer (Graaf-Reinet, South Africa) captures the title in the 1650-yard freestyle (16:36.72) with teammate sophomore Sam Borgman (Zeeland, Mich.) right behind in second place (16:39.53). The duo went 1-2 in the 500-yard freestyle later in the event, this time with Borgman taking first (4:47.41) and Fischer second (4:49.96).

Olivet also took the top two spots in the 400-Individual Medley with senior Aaron Buchanan (4:14.65) and Anderson (4:18.93) touching back-to-back. Buchanan (Beavercreek, Ohio) also took second in the 100-yard butterfly (52.51). Sophomore Calvin Price (Grahamstown, South Africa) took top honors in the 100-yard breaststroke (57.73).

The Tigers took 2-3-4 in the 100-yard freestyle led by Pheasant (46.62), followed closely by Joshua Lercel (47.80) and Bradley Adamson (48.24). Pheasant and Lercel (Mishawaka, Ind.) finished in second (1:44.15) and third (1:46.06), respectively in the 200-yard freestyle.

Junior Ty Jacobs (West Lafayette, Ind.) finished second in the 50-yard freestyle (21.83), while Anderson took second in the 100-yard backstroke (53.70). The Tigers finished the meet taking second (1:26.53) in the 200 Freestyle Relay with the team of Adamson (Lakewood, Cal.), Jacobs, Lercel and Price.

Olivet will return to action at the two-day Woehnker Invite hosted by Wabash College on Nov. 22-23.
