Tigers bounce back with 8-1 win over Lake Superior State

HOMEWOOD, Ill. — After two consecutive defeats — a rare experience for this No. 13-ranked team — the Tigers got back on the court and took it to NCAA Division II Lake Superior State University (Mich.) on Wednesday, February 27. In their final match before spring break, the Tigers defeated the Lakers 8-1.

Olivet (3-2) won all but one singles match against the Lakers (3-8). Senior (#9 ITA) Julian Kurz (Stuttgart, Germany) stayed unbeaten this season with a win (6-0, 1-1 ret.). (#42 ITA) Senior Diego Gonsalvez (San Luis Potosi, Mexico) won (6-1, 6-2). Senior Camilo Giraldo (Medellin, Colombia) won (6-4, 6-0). Sophomore Peter Jensen (Yuba City, Calif.) won (6-0, 6-1). Josue Sanchez (Morelia, Mexico) finished [7-6 (2), 6-2].

In doubles play, the number four ranked ITA team in the nation, Kurz and Gonsalvez, won 8-5. Giraldo and sophomore Landon Williams (Erie, Penn.) won 8-2. Sanchez and Peter Jensen won 8-4 to sweep all three doubles matches.

The Tigers begin their spring break trip on Monday, March 4, with a match against Grand Valley State University (Mich.) at 8 a.m. (EST) in Orlando, Fla.
