ONU falls to Grand Valley State 7-2 in first match in Florida

LAKE CANE, Fla. – The No. 13-ranked Olivet Nazarene University men’s tennis team started their annual spring break trip in Florida with a tough NCAA Division II opponent on Monday, March 4. The Tigers were greeted in the Sunshine State with a 7-2 defeat at the hands of the Lakers.

The Tigers (3-3) won only one singles match against the Lakers (6-1). Senior (#9 ITA) Julian Kurz (Stuttgart, Germany) stayed unbeaten this season with a win (0-0, 15-0, ret.). Senior Camilo Giraldo (Medellin, Colombia) lost in a close one [3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (8)].  

In doubles play, the number four ranked ITA team in the nation, Kurz and Diego Gonsalvez (San Luis Potosi, Mexico), won 9-8. Giraldo and sophomore Landon Williams (Erie, Penn.) lost in a close one 8-6.

The Tigers continue play in Florida on Monday, March 5, with a match against Ohio Dominican University at 8 a.m. (EST).
