2013 ONU men's tennis played three nationally ranked opponents on its trip to Florida
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The opportunity to play the No. 1 team in the nation doesn’t come very often, but for the Olivet Nazarene University men’s tennis team it came on Saturday, March 9. The Tigers traveled to play Embry-Riddle University (Fla.) and were tested in every match, losing 8-1. The loss concludes the Tigers spring break trip.
Olivet (3-7) could not manage a point in singles play against a tough Eagles (8-2) squad, but the three singles player for ONU, senior Camilo Giraldo (Medellin, Colombia), lost in a hard fought match [6-2, 7-6, (7-4)].
The Tigers picked up their lone point against the Eagles. The number four ranked ITA team in the nation, Julian Kurz (Stuttgart, Germany) and Diego Gonsalvez (San Luis Potosi, Mexico), won 9-7 over Chris Freeman and J.R. Leonik.
ONU will be back on the court on Saturday, March 16, against NCAA Division I University of Illinois-Chicago at home starting at 6 p.m.
