Diego Gonsalvez helped lead the Tigers to their 11th straight NAIA National Tournament
CHICAGO --- Helping lead Olivet Nazarene University to the 2013 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Tournament Championship last week, Diego Gonsalvez (San Luis Potosi, Mexico)
has been named the CCAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the seven-day period ending April 28, it was announced by the league office on Thursday morning.
A senior, Gonsalvez helped the Tigers gain convincing 5-0 victories in both the semifinal round against Judson University on Friday and the championship match versus University of St. Francis on Saturday. Gonsalvez, along with teammate Julian Kurz, registered 8-3 and 8-5 wins at No. 1 doubles to get things started in the two matches.
Gonsalvez was also leading his singles matches --- 6-2, 4-1 on Friday and 6-4, 1-2 on Saturday --- when play was halted after the Tigers secured their fifth match win.
With the two doubles wins, Gonsalvez is now 15-2 in that category on the season.
Olivet Nazarene, which evened out its record at 10-10 with the two victories, now advances to the 62nd Annual NAIA Men's Tennis National Championships May 14-18 at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala.
