MOBILE, Ala. — The No. 21-ranked Olivet Nazarene University
men’s tennis team began their trek to the NCCAA National Championship with a
match against Shorter University (Ga.) on Tuesday, May 7, at 8:30 a.m. The
Tigers stumbled as they only managed one point, losing 5-1.
Against Fresno Pacific (10-11), the Tigers (10-11) fell in
three singles matches. Romain Ferreira defeated Diego Gonsalvez (San Luis Potosi, Mexico) (6-1, 6-1). Arturo
Lifshitz defeated Peter Jensen (Yuba
City, Calif.) (6-3, 6-1), and Colt Kelley beat Seth Perry (Jefferson, Ohio) (6-3, 6-0). Julian Kurz (Stuttgart, Germany),Camilo Giraldo (Medellin, Colombia), and Josue Sanchez (Morelia, Mexico) did not finish their matches.
In doubles, the Tigers were able to take one match, but fell
in the other two. The No. 5-ranked ITA team of Julian Kurz and Diego Gonsalvez
fell 9-8 (4). Camilo Giraldo and Landon
Williams (Erie, Pa.) lost 8-5, and Josue Sanchez and Peter Jensen (Yuba
City, Calif.) lost 8-5.
ONU will continue play in the NCCAA National Tournament at 2:30 p.m. against No.22 Campbellsville University (Ky.).
