BOURBONNAIS, Ill. — In his first match as head coach of the Olivet Nazarene University men’s tennis team, Chris Tudor placed six new faces out on the court against Cornerstone University (Mich.). The Tigers were victorious, winning 9-0 in their first match of the 2013-2014 season.

ONU (1-0) capitalized early by winning all three doubles matches of the day by at least three points. The team of Rodolfo Sanchez (Morelia, Mexico) and Caio Barros (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) won 8-2 over Yi and Hunt. Oscar Mancineiras-Cornella (Lleida, Spain) and Juan Lopez-Isasi Morales (Madrid, Spain) beat Reed and Son of Cornerstone (1-1) 8-4.  Lastly, the lone Tiger veteran Peter Jensen (Yuba City, Calif.) and Tyler Ellis (Danville, Ill.) won 8-4 over Andrew and Turnow.

In singles, the Tigers didn’t miss a beat, winning all six and never losing a set. Sanchez defeated Yi (6-0, 6-2). Mancineiras-Cornella won (6-2, 6-3) over Austin Hunt, and Barros defeated Chris Reed (6-2, 7-5). In the fourth singles match, Lopez-Isasi Morales won (6-1, 6-1), Jensen took down Son (6-3, 7-6), and Alef Guimaraes (Palmas, Brazil) won [(7-6 (5), 7-6 (4)] over Turnow.
