ONU beats Indiana Wesleyan on the road

MARION, Ind. — The Olivet Nazarene University men’s tennis team avoided the rainy conditions by playing indoors against the Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats. The Tigers looked good in their second dual match of the season, winning 5-4 over the talented Wildcats team.

ONU (2-0) fell behind after dropping two of three doubles matches. The team of Navarro Veys (Mortsel, Belgium) and Caio Barros (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) lost 8-5 to Johnson and Dubuque. Oscar Mancineiras-Cornella (Lleida, Spain) and Juan Lopez-Isasi Morales (Madrid, Spain) lost by a similar score to Mathews and White. Lastly, the lone Tiger veteran Peter Jensen (Yuba City, Calif.) and Tyler Ellis (Danville, Ill.) won 8-3 over Wroughton and Tabor.

In singles, the Tigers won by winning four of six matches. Veys fell to No. 1 Kyle Johnson (4-6, 6-3, 6-4). Mancineiras-Cornella defeated Dubuque (7-5, 4-6, 6-2), and Lopez-Isasi Morales won over Mathews (6-2, 6-2). Caio Barros beat Gavin White (6-4, 6-3) to give the Tigers their fourth point, and Peter Jensen won (6-4, 7-5) over Daniel Smith. Alef Guimaraes (Palmas, Brazil) lost to Wroughton (6-2, 6-0).

ONU will continue play on Friday and Saturday, September 27 and 28, at Valparaiso University (Ind.) Fall Invitational.
