Junior Landon Williams gained the Tigers' lone point on Saturday versus Valparaiso
VALPARAISO, Ind. — For the last 132 days the Olivet Nazarene
University men’s tennis team sat idle and waited for its season to continue with
a match against NCAA Division I Valparaiso University (Ind.). The Tigers
struggled to matchup with the Crusaders falling in all three doubles matches,
and only managed one singles win, eventually losing 6-1.
ONU (1-2) fell behind after dropping all three doubles
matches. The team of Navarro Veys
(Mortsel, Belgium) and Landon
Williams (Erie, Penn.) fell to Bacalla and Oakes 8-5. Caio Barros (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and Juan Morales (Madrid, Spain) lost in a very close match 8-7 (8-3).
Lastly, veteran Peter Jensen (Yuba City,
Calif.) and Oscar Mancineiras (Lleida, Spain) lost 8-2 to Dunn and Baiocchi.
In singles, the Tigers won by won only one match. Veys fell
to No. 1 Jeffrey Schorsch (6-1, 6-1). Mancineiras lost to Bacalla (7-6 (7-3),
6-3), and Morales fell (6-1, 6-2) to Savaglio. The lone Tiger victory was when
junior Landon Williams (Erie, Penn.) defeated Eric Honert (0-6, 6-1, 10-5). Caio
Barros lost to Lucas Waak(6-1, 6-4) and Peter Jensen fell (6-1, 6-0) to Charlie
ONU will be back in action on Friday, February 14 at McKendree
University (Ill.) at 11 a.m.
