No. 23 ONU starts fast in CCAC play with two 9-0 wins

BOURBONNAIS/ELGIN, Ill. — The No. 23-ranked Olivet Nazarene University men’s tennis team opened CCAC play with two matches on Friday and Saturday, March 28-29, against Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) and Judson University (Ill.). The Tigers swept both matches 9-0 and 9-0, losing only 13 sets out of 61 in doubles play and winning seven singles matches (6-0, 6-0) in 12 attempts.

On Friday, the Tigers (5-7, 2-0) won all three doubles matches by the score of 8-1 against the Crimson Wave (2-4, 0-1). Landon Williams (Erie, Pa.) and Rodolfo Sanchez (Morelia, Mexico), Juan Morales (Madrid, Spain) and Caio Barros (Belo Horizonte, Brazil), and Navarro Veys (Mortsel, Belgium) and Oscar Cornella (Lleida, Spain) all won matches.

In singles, Veys, Cornella, Williams, Morales and Barros all won (6-0, 6-0); and Sanchez defeated Martinez (6-0, 6-1).

Against the Eagles (1-4, 0-2), Williams and Sanchez won 8-6 over Andrew Moment and Reilly Good. Morales and Barros won 8-2, and Veys and Cornella gained a third point by a score of 8-2.

Against Judson, Sanchez and Morales won (6-0, 6-0). Veys won (6-0, 6-2), Cornella defeated Isnz Balase (6-0, 6-1), Williams won (6-1, 6-1), and Barros won (6-3, 6-0).

ONU will be back in action Wednesday, April 2, against (RV) University of St. Francis (Ill.) in CCAC action at 3 p.m.
