Junior Landon Williams helped ONU gain two points in Tuesday's match versus Marian
BOURBONNAIS, Ill. — In five of their last six matches, the
No. 23 ranked Olivet Nazarene University men’s tennis has been victorious, winning four straight in the last two weeks. The Tigers made it five wins with a 6-3 decision over Marian University
(Ind.) on Tuesday afternoon, April 8, in a nonconference match. Olivet swept all three
doubles points and half of the singles to take the contest.
Coach Chris Tudor’s
Tigers (7-7) got back to .500 with three doubles points against Marian (12-15). Landon Williams (Erie, Pa.) and Rodolfo Sanchez (Morelia, Mexico)
defeated Jason Denton and Marty Pochop 8-4. Navarro Veys (Mortsel, Belgium) and Caio Barros (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) won 8-4 over Danny Albert and Taylor
Kinney. Peter Jensen (Yuba City, Calif.)
and Oscar Cornella (Lleida, Spain)
took match No. 3 by a score of 8-3 over Nick Batiello and T. Cunningham.
In singles play, No. 1 Veys lost to Denton (6-3, 6-2). No. 2
Cornella defeated Sach Miatt (6-0, 6-4), and No. 3 Barros lost by a score of
(6-4, 6-4) to Albert.
No. 4 Landon Williams defeated Pochop (6-4, 6-4). No. 5 Barros
won over Kinney (6-1, 6-2), and No. 6 Jensen lost to Ryan Meller (6-4, 6-2).
ONU will be back in action Thursday, April 10, against CCAC
foe (RV) University of St. Francis (Ill.) at home, starting at 3:30 p.m.
