MACOMB, Ill. – Senior Julian Kurz (Stuttgart, Germany) led the way for the Olivet Nazarene University men’s tennis team at the Art Petersen Invitational, hosted by NCAA Division I Western Illinois University on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 7-8.
Kurz won the No. 1 singles bracket by topping opponents from Western Illinois, Truman State University (Mo.) and Valparaiso University (Ind.).
Other singles placers for the Tigers included Diego Gonsalvez (San Luis Potosi, Mexico), who finished third at No. 2; Peter Jensen (Yuba City, Calif.), who won the consolation bracket at No. 4 singles with a win over an opponent from NCAA Division II Lindenwood University (Mo.); Jordan Lingle (Fishers, Ind.), who finished second in the No. 7 consolation bracket; and Mat Bowden (Spring Arbor, Mich.), who took second at No. 8 after losing to a player from Western Illinois.
In doubles play, the pair of Kurz-Gonsalvez finished third after losing 8-6 to a team from NCAA Division II Missouri-St. Louis. Meanwhile, the team of Camilo Giraldo (Medellin, Colombia) and Jensen took second in their consolation bracket after losing 8-6 to a team from Lindenwood.
The Tigers will be back on the court for an exhibition match against Prairie State College (Ill.) on Tuesday, Sept. 11.
