ALLENDALE, Mich. – The foursome of Ty’Rel Fields (Huntsville, Ala.), Ross Johnson (Newton, Ill.), Sam Willis (Freeport, Ill.) and Rey Keys (Matteson, Ill.) had a second consecutive historic weekend, this time breaking the school record and qualifying for the national indoor meet in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:22.47 (finished fifth). Joining them was junior Ethan Gallagher (Parsippany, N.J.), earning his way to the NAIA Indoor meet by qualifying in the one mile run by placing fourth with a time of 4:17.68. The Tigers competed in the Mike Lints Alumni Open, hosted by Grand Valley State University, on Friday, January 18.
Other top performances on the track included Ty’Rel Fields placing third in the meter dash with a time of 49.81. Sam Willis finished fifth with a time of 50.45. Junior Brian Willoughby (Elkhart, Ind.) finished fourth in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:57.62. Junior Andrew Cowen (Carmel, Ind.) finished seventh in the 5000 meter run with a time of 15:53.58, and freshman Ron Milbocker (Whitmore Lake, Mich.) finished ninth (15:55.30). Senior Kent Yamane (Wheaton, Ill.) finished sixth in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.71.
Among placers in field events, sophomore Brian Michell (Reed City, Mich.) placed ninth in the pole vault with a mark of 4.60m. Sophomore Issac Austin (Indianapolis, Ind.) finished 11th in the pole vault with a mark of 4.45m.
The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, January 19, at the Rocky Rococo Invite, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in Whitewater, Wis.
