LISLE, Ill. — In only their second meet of the 2013 outdoor
season, the Olivet Nazarene University men’s track and field team claimed their
first meet championship. The Tigers competed at the Eagle Invitational, hosted
by Benedictine University (Ill.). They scored 105.5 points to beat 20 other
teams on Saturday.
The Tigers defeated NCAA Division I Loyola
University-Chicago (Ill.), who placed second (105). Carthage College (Wis.)
placed third (96.33), and University of Chicago (Ill.) placed fourth with 60.83
Gallagher (Parsippany, N.J.) broke
the school record in the 1500 meter run with a 3:52.54, placing third. He also
qualified for the “A” standard for the NAIA Outdoor Nationals.
Senior Joe Reisinger
(Georgetown, Ill.) finished second in the discus (46.81m) and the shot put 16.01m).
Sophomore Elisha DeRamus (Harvey, Ill.)
won the long jump with a 6.69m mark. He also finished second in the triple jump
with a mark of 13.80m. Freshman Connor
Stroud (Manteno, Ill.) finished second in the high jump with a height of
2.00m, and Lucas Limberg (Rockford,
Ill.) took third (2.00m). Brian
Michell (Reed City, Mich.) won the pole vault with a mark of 4.54m. Freshman
Christopher Aschemann (Carterville,
Ill.) took third in the discus (45.26m).
In addition, Ty’rel
Fields (Huntsville, Ala.) finished fourth in the 400 meter dash (49.23). Jared Carl (Galesburg, Ill.) ran an 11.28
to finish eighth in the 100 meter dash and a 22.23 to finish fourth in the 200
meter dash. Freshman Derrick Booth (Roseville,
Calif.) finished third in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 56.36.
ONU will be back in action on Saturday, April 20, at the CCAC Championships, hosted by the University of St. Franics (Ill.) in Joliet, Ill. at 11 a.m.
