Elisha DeRamus broke school records and qualified in the triple jump on Saturday
JOLIET, Ill. — In one of the strongest fields the NCCAA has
assembled, the Olivet Nazarene University men’s track and field team placed
third of 23 teams in the Outdoor National Meet on May 2 to 4, 2013. The Tigers scored
76.50 points en route to the top three finish. They had a strong day, breaking
two school records. Three Tigers qualified for the NAIA Outdoor National
Meet in only three weeks.
Azusa Pacific University (Calif.) won the event (207), McMurry
University (Tex.) took second (97), and Indiana Wesleyan University finished fourth
DeRamus (Harvey, Ill.) won the long jump while breaking the school record
(7.19m). He also broke the school record for the triple jump, set in 1991, with a
leap of 14.66m, qualifying him for the NAIA national meet. He was named a
two-time all-American for his first place finish in the long jump and second
place finish in the triple jump.
In the pole vault, Brian
Michell (Reed City, Mich.) and Isaac
Austin (Indianapolis, Ind.) each jumped 4.17m to qualify for the NAIA
Outdoor meet. They were also named all-Americans for placing in the top three for the event. Lucas Limberg (Rockford,

On the track, senior Ty’rel
Fields (Huntsville, Ala.) finished fifth in the 400 meter dash (49.10).
Junior Brian Willoughby (Elkhart, Ind.)
came in ninth in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:03.68. Sophomore Dylan Creger (Almont, Mich.) finished
sixth in the 5000 meter run with a time of 15:17.42. Sophomore Ian Lofgren (Rockford, Ill.) finished
eighth in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:07.07.
In the field, freshman Delano
Harris-Samuels (Bourbonnais, Ill.) finished fourth (7.02m) in the long jump.
Senior Joe Reisinger (Georgetown, Ill.) came in fifth in the shot put with
a mark of 16.45m, and he also finished sixth in the hammer throw (47.69m). Jacob Armbrust (Metamora, Ill.) took seventh
in the shot put (15.42m) and sixth in the discus (46.25m).
Following the meet, the NCCAA named these Tigers as 2013 outdoor men's track scholar-athletes: Kyle Boone, (Dixon, Ill.); James Fisher (Wales, Mich.); Matthew Kearney (Marion, Iowa); Matthew Logan (Dixon, Ill.); Sam Pimpo (Antioch, Ill.); Jesse Stanford (Bolingbrook, Ill.); Daniel Wells (Danville, Ill.).
