ALLENDALE, Mich. — Prior to the NCCAA Indoor National Championship, the Olivet Nazarene University men’s track and field team sent seven athletes to the Grand Valley State University (Mich.) Big Meet on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14-15.

ONU competed against multiple NCAA Division I schools including Eastern Illinois University, Marquette University (Wis.), Southern Illinois University, Central Michigan University, and University of Notre Dame (Ind.).

Friday was an exciting day for freshman Zach Gordon (Carol Stream, Ill.), who won the long jump event with a mark of 7.19 meters, beating eight other athletes.

Friday was also record-breaking day for senior Ethan Gallagher (Parsippany, N.J.), who broke the school record set by Kacey Carr in 2008 for the 5000-meter run. Gallagher finished in 14 minutes, 34.98 seconds placing 11th out of 127 runners. He is an automatic qualifier for NAIA Indoor Nationals and is now ranked No. 2 in the nation in the event. Senior Mitchell Dale (Rochester Hills, Mich.) came in 29th with a time of 15:00.03. Sophomore Ron Milbocker (Whitmore Lake, Mich.) finished 84th with a time of 15:40.88 and junior Ian Lofgren (Rockford, Ill.) ran a time of 16:06.26 and finished 107th.

Senior Ty’rel Fields (Hunstville, Ala.) finished sixth out 23 runners in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.29.  Junior Brian Michell (Reed City, Mich.) finished sixth in the pole vault clearing the mark of 4.82 meters in the finals, beating eight other jumpers.

ONU will be back in action on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 21-22, as it hosts the NCCAA Indoor National Championships, starting at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
