HUNTINGTON, Ind. – Ritchie Richardson’s Olivet Nazarene University softball team jumped into the top 10 of the NAIA Coaches Poll after opening their season 13-1, and picked up right where they left off on Saturday, March 23 when they took on Huntington University. The Tigers have been caged in their indoor facility since returning from their spring break trip to Arizona due to weather conditions, but pulled out 4-1 and 8-0 victories on the road.

No. 10 Olivet (15-1) wasted little time getting on the board in the opening game as senior Bethany Holaway (Wheaton, Ill.) reached on a single to shortstop and scored one pitch later as junior Hannah Gardner (Frankfort, Ill.) connected for her second home run of the season and 32nd of her career. The Tigers were then held scoreless until the fifth, leaving six runners on base.

Despite scoring only four runs, the Tigers out-hit the Foresters 15 to five, with seven players connecting for multiple hits. Gardner led with three, while Holaway, junior Justine Phillips (Metamora, Ill.), sophomores Jordyn Truelock (Princeton, Ind.), Megan Butler (Frankfort, Ill.) and Erika Tatum (Bourbonnais, Ill.), and freshman Katie Megyesi (Washington, Ill.) all finished with two apiece. Truelock connected for a triple and Megyesi a double.

Junior Caitlin Santefort (Mokena, Ill.) picked up her sixth win on the season. She allowed just five hits and one run, the first to cross the plate while she occupies the circle. She struck out 14 batters, while allowing just one walk.

In the night cap, Olivet scattered 11 hits to push eight runs across the plate. Gardner, Truelock and Megyesi each connected for two hits, and combined for five RBIs. The Tigers left 11 runs on base. Junior Virginia McAndrews (Wheaton, Ill.) improved to 5-1 on the season, allowing just three hits from the Foresters. She finished with seven strike outs and allowed just one walk.

The Tigers are scheduled open Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a double header starting at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27 against Robert Morris University (Ill.).
