Olivet opens CCAC play with wins over Roosevelt

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – After cancelling or rescheduling eight of their first 10 games since returning to Illinois after spring break, the No. 8 Olivet Nazarene University softball team were final able to get out on Tiger Field as they took on Roosevelt University (Ill.), the newest addition to the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) on Thursday, March 28. The Tigers came away with a sweep, taking the opening game 7-4 and the night cap 8-0.
Sophomore Erika Tatum (Bourbonnais, Ill.) was a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBIs at the plate in game one, including a double. Junior Cheryl Sendzik (Mokena, Ill.) and freshman Lindsey Krippel (Fairbury, Ill.) each added two hits. Junior Caitlin Santefort (Mokena, Ill.) picked up her seventh win on the season, allowing just seven hits. She finished with seven strike outs while allowing four walks. Junior Virginia McAndrews (Wheaton, Ill.) picked up her first save on the year, striking out two in one inning of work.
In game two, the Tigers (17-1, 2-0) offense was spread out as eight players connected for a total of 10 hits. Sendzik and junior Justine Phillips (Metamora, Ill.) each finished 2-for-3. Junior Hannah Gardner (Frankfort, Ill.), sophomore Megan Bulter (Frankfort, Ill.) and Sendzik each connected for doubles. Sophomore Lindsay Stotler (Bloomington, Ill.) earned the five-inning victory, improving her season record to 5-0.
Olivet will host the two-day Tiger Invitational beginning on Friday, March 29. On Friday, the Tigers will face the University of Michigan-Dearborn at 2:00 and 4:00. Saturday Olivet will face Aquinas College (Mich.) at the same times.
