CHICAGO --- Olivet Nazarene University's Hannah Gardner (Frankfort, Ill.) and Caitlin Santefort (Mokena, Ill.) were both perfect for the week as were the Tigers as a team (10-0) during the seven-day period ending April 7 in which Gardner hit safely in all 10 games and Santefort won all four of her starts with three being shutouts. Those efforts helped Gardner claim the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week award, while Santefort earned her third CCAC Pitcher of the Week distinction, it was announced on Tuesday.
It also marked the second time this season that Olivet Nazarene swept the weekly honors. Santefort and Justine Phillips (Metamora, Ill.) did the same the week ending March 10.
Gardner, a junior second baseman, batted .472 (17-for-36) over the ten games with five multi-hit games among the first six contests. She also scored at least one run in eight of the contests and drove in one or more runs eight times with six multi-RBI contests. In all, she scored 12 runs and drove in 15.
Seven of Gardner's 17 hits went for extra-base hits with six being doubles and the other one being a triple leading to a .694 slugging percentage.
Gardner's best performance of the week came in her first game of the seven-day period when she went 4-for-4 with two runs scored, two doubles and three runs batted in in a 9-1 victory over University of St. Francis on Tuesday.
Santefort improved her overall record to 12-0, while lowering her earned run average to 0.52 with the four wins and allowing just one run over the four games covering 25 innings. The junior right-hander also struck out 20 batters, while walking seven and giving up 16 hits.
After giving up the one run to St. Francis in a 9-1 win on Tuesday, Santefort posted her shutouts against Purdue University North Central (11-0) on Thursday, Roosevelt University (5-0) on Friday and Trinity Christian College (5-0) on Saturday.
Winners of 10 straight games, Olivet Nazarene is 29-3 overall and 8-0 in league play, one of only two remaining unbeatens in conference play. Saint Xavier is 6-0 in conference games.
