CHICAGO --- Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament champion Saint Xavier University along with runner-up Olivet Nazarene University on both fronts also led the way on the awards stage when the league office announced its softball postseason honors on Sunday morning.
Olivet Nazarene topped the list of all-conference selections both overall (six) and on the first team (four), while also having junior second baseman Hannah Gardner (Frankfort, Ill.) recognized as the CCAC Player of the Year.
Gardner, one of seven repeat choices on the first team and one of only two three-peat honorees, finished among the top three players in the league in no less than nine categories during the regular season. She topped the charts in batting average (.473), doubles (18), total bases (118) and runs batted in (72). In the latter category, the next closest challenger was 23 runs batted in behind.
Gardner, who was the CCAC Freshman of the Year back in 2011, also placed second in hits (79) and triples (6) and third in runs scored (57), slugging percentage (.707) and on-base percentage (.500).
First baseman Erika Tatum (Bourbonnais, Ill.) was a repeat as a first-team selection. She was joined by junior short-stop Justine Phillips (Metamora, Ill.) and junior pitcher Caitlin Santefort (Mokena, Ill.).
Senior centerfielder Bethany Holaway (Wheaton, Ill.) led the way as a second-team selection. She was joined by sophomore pitcher Lindsay Stotler (Bloomington, Ill.).
