Holaway named Capital One Academic All-American®

TOWSON, Md. – Senior outfielder Bethany Holaway (Wheaton, Ill.) has been named a 2013 Capital One second-team Academic All-America® College Division Softball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Holaway graduated with honors on May 4 with a degree in psychology with a 3.76 GPA. She is a two-time NAIA Scholar-Athlete and a three-time Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) All-Academic Team honoree.
The lone senior on a team that finished the season 48-9, Holaway started 56 of the 57 games in center field. She finished the season with a .341 (57-for-167) batting average, while scoring an NAIA 8th highest 66 runs. She added six doubles and 20 RBIs. For her efforts, she was named CCAC 1st Team All-Conference. She finished her four years with a .331 career batting average and a .959 career fielding percentage.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Voting for Capital One Academic All-District is done by current CoSIDA members. Those who obtain First Team All-District status move onto the national Capital One Academic All-America® ballot; these national awards are voted upon by Academic All-America® Committee members and current CoSIDA Board of Directors.
