Gardner, Phillips named NAIA All-Americans

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced the 2013 Softball All-America teams, selected by the NAIA All-America committee. Juniors Hannah Gardner (Frankfort, Ill.) and Justine Phillips (Metamora, Ill.) represented the No. 15 Olivet Nazarene University softball team. The duo lead the Tigers to a 48-9 overall record and a berth in the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round.
Gardner was named First Team All-American after finishing the season with a .490 batting average. She amassed 23 doubles, seven triples and five home runs. She led the nation with 91 RBIs and put together a 33-game hit streak, setting a new NAIA record. She was named Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year.
Phillips, a transfer from Illinois Central College, was named Second Team All-American. She finished the year hitting .427 including 15 doubles, four triples and two home runs. She also led the Tigers with 84 runs scored. She was named All-Conference First Team.
