KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Olivet Nazarene University softball team finds themselves ranked 10th in the preseason edition of the 2014 NAIA Softball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll which was released on Tuesday, Jan. 21. The Tigers finished the 2013 season with an overall record of 48-9, advancing to the opening round of the NAIA National Tournament. The Tigers return all by one player from a year ago, including NAIA 1st Team All-American and Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year, senior Hannah Gardner (Frankfort, Ill.) and 2nd Team All-American senior Justine Phillips (Metamora, Ill.).
For the 10th-straight time, Concordia (Calif.), the 2013 National Champions, hold the No. 1 position in the preseason poll. The defending national runner-up, Spring Hill (Ala.), sits in the No. 2 spot with 572 total points with Oklahoma City, William Baptist (Ark.) and CCAC rival Saint Xavier rounding out the top-five.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences /independent /unaffiliated groupings. The first regular-season Top 25 will be announced on March 18.
