TOWSON, Md. – Seniors Cheryl Sendzik (Mokena, Ill.) and
Justine Phillips (Metamora, Ill.) are among 22 players in the country to be
named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America® College Division Softball
Team. The duo has led the No. 4 Olivet Nazarene University softball team to a
49-3-1 record and their ninth appearance at the NAIA World Series.
Sendzik is a multimedia major with a 3.87 GPA. A first team
All-CCAC pick, Sendzik has played in 49 games this season and ranks third on
the team with a .444 batting average. She also ranks second on the team with 10
home runs while driving in 54 runs, which is tied for fourth on the team.
Phillips is an elementary education major with a 3.58 GPA. She
led the Tigers in runs scored 77), hits (89), triples (7) and doubles (21). She
was second on the team in batting average (.471) and total bases (136).
Capital One Academic All-America® College Division softball
team is comprised of student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year
institutions. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important
reserve player on a university college team, who maintains at least a 3.3
cumulative GPA. Voting takes place at the district level by members of CoSIDA
and at the national level by a committee.
