MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Olivet Nazarene University volleyball (5-20, 4-6) team came away from the CCAC Crossover Tournament hosted by Cardinal Stritch University 1-2, picking up a straight set win against Illinois Institute of Technology but falling to Judson University in four sets and Cardinal Stritch in three.
On Friday, Oct. 5 the Tigers fell to Judson 21-25, 20-25, 25-23, 22-25. Senior Katherine Hozian (Elk Grove Village, Ill.) led the offensive attack with 15 kills in 37 attempts for an attack percentage of .375. Freshman Becky DeRuiter (Chicago Ridge, Ill.) added 10 kills and senior Carolyn Goettsch (Utica, Mich.) contributed eight. Freshman setter Renee Enz (Wilmington, Ill.) dished out 38 assists and added 11 digs, while sophomore Haley Hatalla (Manteno, Ill.) added 14 digs.
Olivet picked up a victory on Saturday morning against Illinois Tech 25-22, 25-20, 25-9. DeRuiter finished with an attack percentage of .304 with 11 kills in 23 attempts. She also added five service aces. Enz ended with 27 assists.
The Tigers dropped the afternoon match to Stritch 25-13, 25-19, 25-18. DeRuiter put down nine kills in 25 attempts and sophomore Laia Lenzi (Beach Park, Ill.) added seven. Enz finished with 24 assists and Hatalla added 16 digs in the losing effort.
Olivet will return to the court at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9 taking on Purdue University-North Central in Valparaiso, Ind. The two team last faced each other in Bourbonnais on Sept. 6 with the Tigers winning in straight sets – 25-20, 25-17, 25-18.
