Tigers can't hold on against Saints

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – It had been 26 days since the Olivet Nazarene University volleyball team had played a match on their home court, finally returning on Thursday, Oct. 11 from a 13-game road trip. The Tigers played well against the University of St. Francis (Ill.), but fell in three close sets 25-23, 25-19, 25-23 in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletics Conference (CCAC) play.
The Tigers (6-21, 5-7) were led by senior Katherine Hozian (Elk Grove Village, Ill.) and freshman Beck DeRuiter (Chicago Heights, Ill.) who each contributed 10 kills, while sophomore Kaia Lenzi (Beach Park, Ill.) added eight. Freshman setter Renee Enz (Wilmington, Ill.) dished out 30 assists.
On defense, freshman Carly Wenzelman (Bonfield, Ill.) provided 14 digs and sophomore Haley Hatalla (Manteno, Ill.) added 13. Lenzi also added six block assists, teaming up with Enz on three.
The Saints (21-5. 12-1) sit tied with Trinity Christian College (Ill.) atop the South Division of the CCAC.
Olivet will host Purdue University-Calumet (Ind.) on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. The teams last faced each other on Sept. 18 with the Tigers winning in straight sets, 25-18,25-12,25-19.
