Tigers take down Peregrine in team effort

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University volleyball team dominated Purdue University-Calumet (Ind.) in every offensive category on Tuesday, Oct. 16. The Tigers took the match in straight sets, 25-9, 25-9, 25-11.
Olivet finished the night with 45 kills to just 10 by visiting Peregrine, ending the night as a team with just 10 hitting errors in 95 attempts (.368). The offensive attack was spread out amongst the Tigers as six players contributed five kills or more. Defensively, five players recorded six digs or more.
Senior Carolyn Goettsch (Utica, Mich.) led the Tigers with 10 kills in 20 attempts with just two errors (.400). Senior Katherine Hozian (Elk Grove Village, Ill.) was right behind with nine kills in 19 attempts and just three errors (.316). Freshmen Becky DeRuiter (Chicago Heights, Ill.) and setter Renee Enz (Wilmington, Ill.) both added six kills, and sophomore Heidi Schoenbein (Morton, Ill.) added five.
Enz dished out 33 assists, eight digs and two service aces. Hozian and freshman Carly Wenzelman (Bonfield, Ill.) each added nine digs, while sophomore Haley Hatalla (Manteno, Ill.) and DeRuiter contributed six apiece.
The Tigers (7-21, 6-7) will participate in a two-day invitational hosted by Grandview University (Iowa) starting on Friday, Oct. 19. Olivet will face Evangel University (Mo.) at 6 p.m. and Jamestown University (N.D.) at 8 p.m. on Friday. Saturday morning they will take on Davenport University (Mich.) at 10 and then face No. 13 Grand View University at noon.
