Schmidt inks professional contract; Continues volleyball career in Premier Volleyball League

KANSAS CITY – Olivet Nazarene University volleyball alum Tara Schmidt (‘11) became the first player in program history to sign a professional contract, continuing her playing career as a member of the new Heart of America Havoc team. The startup team is comprised of 19 players and will compete in the Premier Volleyball League, a professional, region-based indoor women’s league sanctioned by USA Volleyball.
Schmidt, a 6-3 right-side hitter is a native of Olathe, Kan. She finished her career at Olivet as a three-time NAIA All-American, receiving honorable mention honors as a freshman (2007) and sophomore (2008) and 3rd team as a junior (2009). She currently ranks seventh in career kills (1,536), total blocks (438) and block assists (405) as a Tiger.
Former NJCAA National Champion and Hall of Fame Coach Jill Stinson will lead the Havoc in 2013. Stinson was also a player on Kansas City’s last professional volleyball team, the Kansas City Lightning of the NVA League.
The league is comprised of 13 teams broken into three different regions will begin competition in 2013. The Havoc will compete in several home and away matches and the Show Me National Qualifier against other PVL teams from across the country. A League Championship will be held at the 2013 USA Volleyball Open National Championships in Louisville, KY.
